Before full restoration in later years, The Church of the Holy Nativity in Totterdown was the first church in Bristol to be destroyed by a heavy air raid in 1940. The painting of the Holy Nativity in the fourth image is by English war artist John Piper, who was commissioned by The War Artists' Advisory Committee to paint a series of bomb-damaged churches at the time.
